We offer exciting secondary school placements in your area. This will help you build contacts and connections locally and, once qualified, you’re more likely to secure a job close to home.
During your training, you’ll enjoy two contrasting placements, perhaps grammar and comprehensive, or maybe rural and urban. We have home schools in a triangle roughly stretching between Salisbury, Southampton and Poole.

Our trainee teachers join from previous careers, straight out of University and after career breaks.
For them, and no doubt for you too, it can be a scary time. There will be the anxiety that comes with any big life decision, as well as the entirely natural concerns about whether the finances are going to add up.
You’ll receive huge amounts of support from your fellow trainee teachers, the university tutors and your home school – you’re part of their family now and they’ll always go the extra mile for you.
The University of Southampton backs all this up with world class theory and knowledge, giving you the best start possible.

The SUPA teacher training route has been absolutely brilliant as it gives the best of both worlds. I’ve followed the same programme as the University Led students and am fully integrated with them, however have had more opportunities such as spending a week in school before the start of the course. This was really helpful in getting started and raising discussion points and questions that could then be answered before going to the first placement school. It also meant that I got a head start in planning and resources as the department were very generous with their lessons! Having a Home School has meant that throughout the year I have had support from them in addition to the university and my alternative placement school. My home school mentor was able to come and see me at my alternative placement school which meant she could see where I was at in my journey and I could get stuck in to teaching quicker when I went to my home school after Christmas. To have the same training at university but more opportunities and support is brilliant and I cannot recommend the SUPA training route enough!”
